Robert Dvorchak

Class of 1967

Robert Dvorchak has been a journalist for more than 40 years and currently does special assignment reporting on sports in popular culture.A native of Uniontown, Pa., and a graduate of California University, he began working for Uniontown Newspapers Inc. in 1967 as a general assignment and sports reporter. He later worked for The Associated Press for 20 years in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and New York City, where he was a national writer for the world's largest news agency. During the first Iraq War, he was a pool reporter assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in its invasion of Iraq. He has received a number of journalism awards and has authored four books, including one on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. He first covered the Steelers in 1970. A member of the Baseball Writers Association of America, he first covered Major League Baseball in 1976 and formerly covered the Pirates as a beat writer.His eight-part series on the history of the Steelers won a Golden Quill award for sports writing in May 2008. When judged against all the other winners in all writing categories of news, business and features, it also received the Ray Sprigle Award as the best in show.
