Greetings, fellow Uniontown High School 1970 Classmates ~

This note announces the cancellation of the projected 50th Class Reunion.

The past three months have been tumultuous, with more unknowns to come. I checked last night and am unable to determine that Fayette County has any confirmed COVID-19 cases; and there are none yet confirmed in the rural county of Western North Carolina where I live. Despite that fact, our state governor in NC has issued a “stay at home” order that extends through the end of April and the Virginia governor has a similar order through 10 June.

Moreover, the ‘wave’ away from the major centers of New York City, Seattle and Los Angeles has already affected New Orleans, and two factors are constant as we look forward:
1) Each of us is in the most vulnerable age category for this pandemic
2) Many of us who might be participating would be traveling into Western PA

Despite the possibility that the pandemic may have been ‘flattened’ to enable life to
return to some semblance of normalcy, facets such as getting a refund for a cancelled airline ticket are unpredictable. Hence, this cancellation before classmates must make arrangements for travel that may not be possible come August. Hopefully this decision has been made prior to anyone setting travel plans that can’t be reimbursed. The Hilton Garden Inn in Uniontown and the Uniontown Country Club have been notified of the cancellation.

If you were among those who already sent money to Rich Spellman to serve as a “sponsor”, I leave it up to you to request a refund or leave your kind gesture in the UHS 1970 account for a future event.

My most sincere apologies as I was certainly looking forward to seeing each of you in August.
